Air and sea temperatures are on the rise much faster in the Arctic more than anywhere else on Earth. Melting white ice exposes dark ocean water. Dark water absorbs more sunlight, which creates a continuous warming loop called The Albedo Effect. This effect creates more wind, high-energy ocean waves and storm surge that slam into vulnerable, thawing permafrost coastlines causing significant erosion. Multiple communities are impacted and will soon be displaced. While One Ocean sailed through the NWP we saw multiple 50+ mph wind storms on a weekly basis. #climatechange #sail #nwp #ocean
