The general public, students, and educators are invited to a special sendoff for the crew of One Ocean before departing on their 14-month voyage Around the Americas.

Come wish the crew farewell on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the parking lot next to Dock B at Cap Sante Marina in Anacortes. Gather with others for this warm, heartfelt reception at 8 am – 9 am hosted by Skagit Valley College. Remarks will be shared at 9 am by project supporters and crew of the Expedition. One Ocean launches at 10 am, escorted out to sea by the Samish Research Vessel Yo’mech (Chinook).
Our adventuresome, brave crew consists of Captain Mark Schrader; Project Director and Co-Captain Jennifer Dalton; Marine Tech. Center Chair Mike Beemer; Lead Onboard Scientist Grace Dalton; and Outreach Coordinator Tess Schornack. The Expedition will focus on ocean research, education, and community outreach.
Waggoner and other members of the community wish the crew of One Ocean the very best of adventures and discovery. The following two paragraphs are taken from a poem entitled “The Sailor’s Heart.”
Though miles may stretch, and dangers loom,
A sailor’s spirit will overcome.
For in the sea, a freedom lies,
Reflected in their steady eyes.
They’ve seen the sun, a golden eye,
And watched the moon, a silver sky.
They’ve felt the chill, the sun’s warm kiss,
And known the joy, the ocean’s bliss.
